Automatic Door Opener
The automatic door opener, purchased through the Civitan Grant, converts any door into an automatic one. An automatic door opener assists a developmentally and physically challenged person independent access to the outside. The door works by a remote controlled system and a push button on the wall. This devise allows Eric more independence within his home. In addition, the automatic door opener provides a safe exit for individuals in wheelchairs in the event of an emergency.
Barrier-Free Ceiling Lift
The barrier-free ceiling lift system, purchased through the Civitan Grant, is an electronically powered, overhead system that gently carries Eric from the bedroom to the bathroom. Ceiling tracks connect the bathroom with two adjoining bedrooms. The lift can gently transfer the individual from his/her bed to the toilet, shower, or bathtub. The barrier-free ceiling lift provides for easy transfers and ensures staff and individual safety. In addition, this automatic system only requires one staff person unlike manual systems that require two or more.
Additional Features:In addition to the battery back up system, in the event of a lift switch malfunction, you can unhook the switch and blow into the tube to manually move the lift up and down.
The barrier-free lift system is connected by a ceiling track system. The track system runs from two adjoining bedrooms to the bathroom. In the center of the bathroom is a turntable so the lift can easily be redirected to the other bedroom.
